I straighten the wrinkles out of my shirt, cursing Ralph for tugging on the hem of it. It was the first time that Lord Jayhem did more than glance my way. I’d came to the club every night he was schedule to make an appearance. Couple of times when I knew he’d be in his upstairs office, one full of floor to ceiling window.
“Would you care to join me?” Lord Jayhem offered me his slimline hand.
I place mine in his, reveling in how it swallowed mine. I knew he was huge, but never considered his hunky, broad shoulders, and seven foot would extend to his hands.
Lord Jayhem shifted his glance to Ralph, who stood there with his mouth open. “I promise to bring him back to you in one piece.”
“Oh . . . I . . . Never . . .”
I silently cursed Ralph for his stuttering. All he should have done was nod, then scurried from the building, ensuring I did not have to be brought back to him.
“Keep him.”
Ralph winked at me, then nodded at Lord Jayhem. “I have no say over him. He’s all yours.”
That I hoped to be. For more than one night. I doubted that would happen, but Lord Jayhem was well known for taking a lover once or twice then discarding them. I knew this, but it never detoured me from longing to be his. My dream. My life depended on it. I wasn’t sure why, but my gut twisted every time I saw him. My father taught me to listen to it, and the only other time I had felt that deep etching for a man was when I fell head over heals for Dave. I had him for thirteen years before he ran across his Lifelong Partner. The one every vampire longed to find. The one made just for you. Getting over Dave had been hard, but I never once despised him. I knew that chance of one of us finding such was good.
“You with me?”
I looked up, locking my eyes onto his glowing red ones. Those eyes that had first drew me to him. There was never a night that I had not dreamed of him staring me down with them as he fucked me into the mattress.
“Cal?”

“Always.” Truer words had never been spoken.

Lighting streaked across the sky, sending shards of ripples over my bird like arms. It was the one thing I hated about my body. Being an Eagle Shifter left me with thin arms and they always rippled when the wind picked up, or there was static in the air. Last couple of nights they’d stayed in the state of water like waves. The Lords of the Sky have been at each other’s throats since the New Moon. None of my underground sources knew why. All they could tell me, which wasn’t hard to figure out, was that it was major. The Lords never fought each other. Or not since the turn of the century when Zamon’s wife caught him in the bed with her human sister. It was then that the Lords decided it was best if there were only male parings among the humans. Most of the underground subject kicked up a ruckus over what they viewed as disgraceful. I’m still am not sure if it was the fact that the undergoundlings could mate with humans, or if two men would be mating together. Neither mattered to me. All I cared about was finding the perfect mate that would make me happy like my mother and father had been for all their lives.
“You spacing again, son.”
“Sorry, dad.” Ralph shook his head and sighed. “What do you think happened this time?”
His dad looked skyward and then back at his mother. I followed his eyes and found my mother frowning. Not something I ever saw her do. The woman was a post card of happiness. My father worked hard to ensure she stayed that way.
“What’s up?”
“We have to Rebecca.”
“No we don’t.” My mother snapped and crossed her arms. “They left it up to us.”
Left what up to them? Who? If it had been anyone other than my parents I would have interrupted them and demanded to know what they were keeping from me, but . . . Parents did what they thought was best for their children. Or his always had.
“You know it won’t be much longer before he finds out. Best if it is from us.”
“No. He is my son.”
Every muscle in my body tightened and my stomach quivered. My parents was not one to keep major secrets from me. They had always promised me full truth.
“Rebecca . . .”
The sky lit up with a huge streak of lightening and a gray mist drifted down from the middle of it. Seconds later a hazy like image formed in between me and my parents. The shape did not take long to form and when it did, I found myself falling to my knees in front of the main Lord himself. Zamon, the holder of the ability to shift into every animal known to mankind.

Zamon’s image turned to face my parents and gave them a small bow, then refaced me. “Stand my son.”

Travis sat on some ratty old sofa that had been drug outside his cousins backyard. No telling how long it had been out there, or how many times it’d been rain on. Sure did stink, but there was no other place for him to sulk. He’d tried his cousin bedroom, but . . . He’d scared himself for life when he walked in on his cousin banging some chick. Not a sight he ever wanted to see. Not just his cousins ass, but a naked woman. No one who came to Ralph’s parties cared who you dated or fucked for the fun of it. Most of them was bi-sexual. There were a couple of gay men who came, including him. Normally, he brought David, but the ass-wipe had flaked on their night out. Again.
“Hi.” He looked up and locked onto a pair of dark, dreamy brown eyes and a nice angular cheekbones. Ones that begged for someone to nipple a path down them ending at the base of his neck.
“Care if I join you?”
Travis shook his head.
“Or . . . was you wanting to be alone?”
Another shake of the head.
“Okay, you are a silent type.”
What? Shit. He’d not spoken the Greek-God like man. There was nothing wrong with talking to another man. Who said the hunk of meat was even gay. Who was he kidding, his gaydar sprang to life the moment he locked eyes with the man. If he could he’d adjust his cock, but doing so would be to obvious. And he was not single. Or was he?
“Names’ Brandon.”
“Hi. Nice to meet you.”
“You do have a sexy voice. I knew it.”
“Thanks. Names’ Travis.”
“I know. I asked the host.”
Course his cousin enlightened the man. He would have thrown him over to him, if he didn’t think he’d get his ass kicked by Travis. No one in his family liked David and his flaky ways. They’d told him over and over to leave the jerk and find a man worthy of him. Part of him agreed, but Travis wasn’t to keen on leaving a five year relationship. Hard to start over.
“He also told me you are here alone. Tonight at least.”
“True.”
“How come? I’ve seen you at these parties for the last month or two and you’ve been here with the same man two or three times.”
He had been to his cousin’s parties with David. Or the nights he didn’t flake on him.
“If you were my man . . . I’d never let you go to one of these parties alone. I’d be afraid someone would try and steal you from me.”
Some had, but he’d always rejected them. Something about Brandon enlightened him. Teased his hormones. Increased his libido. Then again . . . David.
“How’s it going cousin.”
“Fine. Sorry about earlier.”
“No problem. It happened all the time at these parties.”
“Oh. TMI, man. TMI.”
“Whatever.” His cousin slapped Travis on the back. “Told you he was alone tonight.”
“Tonight, yes, but something says he’s not officially alone.”
“Does that matte?”
“Does to me.” Travis sat down beside him. “But doesn’t mean I can’t try and persuade him to leave whoever abandoned time with him.”
“Hope so. David is an ass who doesn’t appreciate what he has.”
“Cousin, shut up.”
He held his hands up and back up. “Just saying what I’ve always said.”
Brandon bumped his shoulder and grinned at him. “Do I have a chance of intriguing you more than you already are?”
Did he? Travis wasn’t sure, but he knew he’d taken about all the no-shows from David. He deserved a man who put him before his job.
“Tell me about yourself.”
