What's in the works?

What is in the works?

It’s been a few months since I had a book release. Some emails have come in asking when another would be released. I’m afraid I have no solid answer, so I decided to post a reason explaining why.

When I was writing the last Journey Series novel, and working with my mom on Witch & Wolf, I was hit with four new series ideas. (Combining the possible number of book in each one, that gave me around 18 story ideas.) All of these are floating around in my head, trying to spring to life at once. Needless to say, it is slowing me down a bit.

Don’t fret though, there will be some more amazing books released as soon as I can work them all out of my head. Until then, bare with me and make sure to check my website, and blog for any and all updates.

Remember when you read or write let your imagination soar.

Have a great week, and try to stay cool.

What sparks an idea?

Ideas. Ideas. Ideas. Where do you come from?

Writers never know what might spark an idea. Not even how well that spark might grow. Could be a simple look that gives us an idea. Sometimes it’s a memory. Other times it’s a off the wall comment overheard while standing in the middle of a grocery store. Sometimes even a flicker of an image.

How fast and far these ideas grows is up to each writers. Some get only the story idea or a basic layout. Sparks have been known to provide a third to half a story. Then again, there some who get an entire 50,000+ word story from one wallet size photo.

Writers, like myself don’t go out looking for ideas, but our brains never shut off what is taking place around us. Our creative side is always on the lookout for that next amazing igniting moment.

There no sure fire way to tell you how, when and why it happens. Simply does. If anyone knows, then I’ve not heard and I don’t expect to. Any good creative person doesn’t give away their secret to success. They might give you a hint to what caused it, but the nitty gritty of it will remain hidden.

Hope all of you have an amazing week.

Remember to let your imagination soar when you are reading.

Many Hats of Self-Publishing

Many Hats of Self-Publishing

As you’ve heard me write on my blog before, Self-Publisher has many different jobs. Some of us hire others to help us out, and some of us tackle them all. In my case, I tackle them all. That means I have to go from one mindset to another.

Most given days, I begin out in writer mode, which is exactly what it sounds like. I write whatever comes into my head. This is what I refer to as my Writer’s Hat. Once I’ve completed a story, it has to be revised; therefore I’m still in wearing my Writer’s Hat. Of course, I have to edit, which I dread each and every time I sit down and put on my Editor Hat. Each book has to have a cover, yet another switch of the hats. Time to put on the Designer Hat. Of course, I don’t get to do much advertising, but I do enough that I have to put on my Advertising Hat to come up my YouTube commercials as well as the flyers, and emails I send out. Let’s not forget the business side of being a self-publish, which means I have to put on the Accountant Hat. These are the main ones that I use daily and weekly. There are others at times of course.

No matter how many hats I wear in a given day or week, I enjoy each, some more than others. My favorite would be the Writer’s Hat. Least favorite would be Editor Hat, since it’s the toughest one for me to accomplish since it’s my weakest area. No matter what it has to be done, until I source the jobs out. So, I bit the bullet and drive forward, hoping each and every time I do, that I pick up some new bit of information that will help me improve on this particular hat.

Remember to enjoy each and every book your read by letting your imagination run free.

Have a great week,
Julia
