A to Z April Blogging Challenge Word of the day - Alraun

Alraun was folk magic from central European. Primarily used in Germany, but was forgotten by the end of the 19th Century. Some of its practices are still alluded to in the Pagan books. The rituals and practices of Alraun is closely related to those of the mandrake.

Alraun is a human like image made from the root of the rowan or mountain ash, used as the dwelling of a spirit. Supposedly, they were used to answer questions by moving their heads. It was thought that if you neglected the image that they would cry out and bring ill luck to the entire household.

Hope all have a great day and checks back tomorrow to see what word I’ve chosen to discuss that begins with the letter “B” related to the Occult.

Have a great day and remember:

  4. That is really interesting, I'd never heard of that kind of magic before. Kind of like a familiar, but one imbued with spirit rather being a living creature in the first place.
