“You will not do this.” Freddy shouted at his sister.
“You have no right to tell me what I can and can’t do.” She shouted back.
“Franny, I do. I’m the eldest and only living relative you have. It is my decision if, when, and who you mate.”
“By four minutes. Not enough time to give you the right to dictate to me.” His sister squared her shoulder, clueing him in on the upcoming bombshell she was about to drop. “Our Pride Leader agrees with me.”
Why in the world would Pride Leader Combs think his sister would be better off choosing a mate instead of waiting for her predestined mate? Freddy wouldn’t let his sister ruin her life. “No. I won’t give my blessings. You have to have at least one family member’s agreement and I’m it for our family.”
Franny’s shoulder slumped and she threw her head back and roared. “By the lions above, why do you have to be so stubborn.”
“Because,” Freddy stepped towards her and wrapped an arm around her. “Our parents were chosen mates and you see how badly their relationship was.” Their mom and dad had fought every day of their life, right up until his father lost control of his lion and killed her, ending his life minutes later. He didn’t want his sister to follow in their footsteps. He wanted her to have a love filled life, one she could only gain from finding her predestined mate.
“I know this, Freddy, but I’m not them. I’m not going to pick the first lion that shows interest in me. I just want happiness.”
“Then wait until you find your destined one.”
“It is rare for us to find such a love. You know this.”
He did, but it was what he wanted for his sister. “I’ll make sure you visit every lion pride in the world, if you will just wait to find your one true love.”
“Freddy, please don’t make me wait.”
Freddy wasn’t going to give on this point. He’d made his mind up the moment Tobby had begun showing interest in his sister. Tobby was a devious lion, who would do anything to promote his standing. Nothing would do so better than marrying the second richest person among the pride.
“No. You’ve heard my answer.” He laid a hand on his sister’s shoulder. “I’m sorry if it makes you unhappy, but it’s for the best in the long run.”

“We’ll see about this.” Franny spun around and stomped towards the pride leader’s home.
